Affiliate Huddle: Views from Marketing Town
June 12th, 2019
Read about our take-outs from the morning session at Affiliate Huddle.
Last week we went along to the Affiliate Huddle at the QEII Centre in Westminster. It was great to see so many familiar faces in the crowd and well-known names in the industry as panellists. Overall, the day was incredibly informative with lots of interesting themes discussed.
And here are our top take-outs from the sessions we attended:
1. 'Affiliate Marketing Etiquette' talk with Kate Irvine - In order to be successful, you need to get the basics right with:a. A reliable and accurate tracking tool
b. A deduplication tool
c. Building relationships
d. Being more collaborative
And ultimately, the success of a business in this industry is driven by technology, people and partnerships.
2. 'What Got You Here, Won't Get You There' talk with Helen Southgate - Her talk focused on partnerships and how it needs to be an on-going process, not a one-off. And partnerships will be crucial to grow the market.
3. 'The Evolution of Performance Marketing at BT' talk with Caroline Mulvihill - She used an Avengers theme in her presentation which was quite unusual and funny. Specifically, she gave the different teams an Avengers character name like Iron Man and Captain America, so she could tell a story of how all teams need to work together to fight different challenges (just like the superheros in the film fight together to protect the world). This was powerful because everyone was able to relate to the characters and was the one session which stuck vividly in our minds.
4. 'Influencer Marketing Without the Proper Checks and Transparency Will Not Work' talk with Alex Frolov - Most influencers are likely to end up as affiliates so it's only a matter of time before influencer marketing and affiliate marketing joins forces. In general, those who want to make the most out of influencers need to check geographies, gender, audience quality and interests. Influencer marketing without proper checks and transparency will not work.
